Probably the best all around package you can find in a full size binocular! Sure, optically (sharpness & contrast) it may just be marginally inferior (and I do mean marginally after comparing it to several of the 'top end' models such as the Zeiss FL and Swarovski EL) but when all of the essential components of a great binocular are considered (field of view, eye relief, weight, etc.) this binocular clearly outshines all of the other full sized models. While it's predecessor, the HG 8.5 x 43 BR, had a fairly narrow field of view (only 321 ft), this 2nd generation model now has a respectable field of view of 379 ft. Like the 8.5 x 43 the ergonomics (focus knob, fit and feel, etc.) are also among the best (as reported in Bird Watcher's Digest reviews of mid-priced and top end binoculars). But what makes this binocular so superlative is it's weight at only 22.9 oz! This is similar to mid sized models (8 x 32's) but you get the advantages of a larger objective lens with no added burden of extra weight! Full sized models offered by the 'big guns' generally weigh 27-29 ounces, and as all birders know carrying 4-6 ounces less in the field makes a remarkable difference. Excellent optics, phenomenal binocular! Kudos to Minox for getting it right the 2nd time around!
